Dr Mike Shipstone

Registered Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology

Mike graduated from The University of Queensland in 1984 and has worked in a number of different private practice and industry positions. In 1995 he started a residency in Melbourne, with additional periods of study at the University of California, Davis and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. 

Mike established Dermatology for Animals in 1998 after completing both the Australian & American specialty training programs and passing the respective examinations, the first Australian to achieve this feat. He is principle and director of Dermatology for Animals and Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland where he teaches the undergraduate vet students.

Mike is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (Veterinary Dermatology) and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology.   Mike has published in Australia and overseas and has presented in Australia, South East Asia, New Zealand and North America.

Mike and his dermatology team visit Mackay four to five times a year to service regional Queensland.


Dr Tony Read

Registered Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology

Tony Read is a graduate of the University of Sydney.  After several years in mixed general practice, Dr Read commenced specialising in Veterinary Ophthalmology. He completed specialist training at the Animal Health Trust in the United Kingdom and has British, European and Australian specialist qualifications in Veterinary Ophthalmology, with specialist recognition in both Australia and Europe.

On returning to Australia, Dr Read established his practice Veterinary Ophthalmic Referrals (VOR), currently run from dedicated ophthalmology-only premises in Adelaide.  A visiting service to North Queensland works out of host practices in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton, with trips scheduled every two to four months.
