What to expect when your pet is admitted to hospital
Admission
Initial steps in their care might be to have an IV catheter placed and/or bloods taken. Your pet will then be comfortably settled into their kennel.
We have separate wards for small dogs, large dogs and cats.
Critically ill patients who need constant monitoring will be placed in the ICU and may be connected to advanced monitoring equipment.
Bedding and Toys
We understand that bringing familiar items can help comfort pets.
Personal items may get soiled and will be washed with the hospital’s laundry, which may result in lost or damaged items due to the high number of patients being cared for in hospital.
Diet
We provide high-quality veterinary diets tailored to your pet’s medical needs.
You are welcome to drop off your pet’s food if they have food sensitivity issues or allergies.
Hospital Care
Your pet will primarily be looked after by the designated veterinarian and hospital nurse. As part of their care, your pet will receive:
- Regular checks to monitor their comfort, behaviour and overall wellbeing
- Gentle walks outside, where appropriate for their condition
- Small, frequent meals, with consideration given to their condition and appetite
- Individualised, fear-free handling – our team works at your pet’s pace and utilises comfort strategies where possible to minimise fear and stress
- Additional specialised care and support as required as part of your pet’s personalised treatment plan
Visiting
While we don’t have set visiting hours, we ask that you call ahead to organise a visit.
Please note that visit durations may be limited to ensure treatments and procedures are not disrupted.
Updates
You can expect a detailed update and treatment plan from the veterinarian daily between 8am and 12pm.
To ensure clear communication, we recommend designating one family member as the primary contact.
Discharge
At discharge, you will receive a detailed summary outlining instructions for your pet’s ongoing care, including medications, diet recommendations and activity restrictions, if any.
We may also recommend a follow-up check, depending on your pet’s needs.
