…no two days are the same, and the variety of species we meet along the way is exciting too.
I moved to Mackay to join the team at Stabler and Howlett in 2018, after completing my veterinary studies at Wagga. Growing up in Mudgee, I had never spent too much time north of the border, so after graduation I was eager to go on an adventure and experience everything tropical Queensland had to offer!
I have always been an animal lover. I believe this interest stemmed from my Nan, who was very compassionate lady and the president of the local RSPCA – I spent a large part of my childhood on my grandparent’s farm ‘helping’ with all of their animals! I then began veterinary nursing in Mudgee for several years before continuing on to study veterinary science at university.
What I enjoy about being a vet is that no two days are the same, and the variety of species we meet along the way is exciting too. My interests are very broad – I find ophthalmology, surgery, zoonotic disease and wildlife medicine particularly interesting, and I’m sure this list will grow and change with time!
At home, I have a Dogue De Bordeaux called Jersey who is my best mate. She is loyal, lazy, and loves to go on road trips with her big head hanging out the window! Her best friend is Otis the pug – Otis is highly entertaining, stubborn, and food obsessed…he is partial to sun-baking, growling at the wind and eating non-food items including plants and dog hair.
In my spare time, I really enjoy going travelling and the outdoors – camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking or beaching, there is usually somewhere to explore! If it’s raining you will find me inside drawing, painting or reading a good book.
