Do you have a new puppy?

Did you know the critical socialisation period for dogs is between 3 and 16 weeks of age?

At Stabler & Howlett, we are passionate about our owners enjoying the full benefits of pet ownership.

Puppy preschool is a fantastic opportunity to lay the foundations for a happy, healthy and obedient furred family member.

Whether you are new to puppy ownership, haven’t had a dog in a little while or have expanded your animal family, there is something for everyone at puppy preschool.

The aim of puppy preschool is to socialise your puppy in a safe environment, provide education on basic animal behaviour techniques and provide the most up-to-date health information.

Classes are run monthly and are capped at 6 puppies per class to ensure each puppy receives our full attention.

We also have the added benefit of being able to offer the Pet Protector online course to all puppy preschool attendees.

Pet protector is a comprehensive online course designed by veterinarians and veterinary nurses that helps to reinforce what you have learnt in puppy class and to provide extension information for those owners who would like to take their learning further. There are also bonus activities and resources in the course to help you motivate your children to get involved in your pets’ care.

This resource doesn’t expire so you can continue to use the information long after your puppy has graduated puppy preschool.

Puppy Preschool FAQs

Puppy Preschool is a fun and interactive behaviour training program run by our vet nurses. It is an excellent starting point for any pet owner wanting a well-mannered and socialised puppy.

Over the course of this program, you will be taught the best strategies to communicate with your new family member and learn to understand what they are saying to you. There will be plenty of time in each session to ask for advice and receive individualised feedback on you and your puppy’s progress.

Guide your puppy’s development and build a strong relationship with them as they grow into a lifetime member of your family.

Only puppies who are between 8-16 weeks old at the time of the first class can be enrolled into our Puppy preschool as this is the crucial development phase for puppy training and socialisation.

All puppies are required to have had at least one vaccination 2 weeks before the first class.

Your puppy must be free of fleas, ticks and worms to safeguard their health as well as the health of the other puppies in class.

Puppy preschool is a 4-week course that is run on a Wednesday or Thursday night at the Ooralea Clinic, with each session lasting for 1 hour. Classes are kept small with only 4-8 puppies per session, so the trainer can maximise their support of your puppy’s individual learning. Treats will be supplied for your puppy, so all you need to bring is yourself, your puppy and a lead.

Puppy preschool will focus on various topics consisting of:

  • Socialisation
  • Basic obedience commands
  • Calming and handling techniques
  • Desensitising games
  • Advice on common ‘unwanted’ puppy behaviors
  • Troubleshooting challenging puppy behaviors

The training area is completely disinfected before and after each session to ensure a clean and safe learning environment for your puppy.

There are limited spots available at each session so contact us on (07) 4952 2522 to enrol your puppy now.
