Jess Vella

Veterinary Nurse
Certificate II in Animal Studies

There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a patient make a full recovery and be able to go home after a stay in hospital.

I joined the Stabler and Howlett team in 2015, and I’m currently studying to complete my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I love every second of being a vet nurse, and it’s been great working with such a fantastic team of vets and nurses. I honestly believe they’re some of the most amazing people you’ll ever meet. I’ve got lots of interests at the clinic, but I especially enjoy intensive hospital patient care and equine procedures.

My favourite part of being a nurse is watching an animal improve whilst in hospital care – when I see that, I know all our hard work has paid off. I also love horses and birds, so I really enjoy caring and treating our wildlife and equine patients.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my partner, friends and workmates. In my spare time I enjoy showing cattle and horses. I have a particular love of dressage and I’m always looking to improve my skills, to progress in the show world.

The Vella household has a menagerie of pets! We have a family dog named Molly, a seven-year-old Maltese Terrier, and two cats named Crystal and Casper. I also have a large variety of birds and other exotic animals, including Apollo (my Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo), who constantly needs attention and is an absolute show off.
