Every day is different. I can be caring for a sick horse in the morning, scrubbing into surgery at lunch, and then treating a sick cat or dog in the afternoon. I really have the dream job!
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a vet. My journey towards that goal really started at the age of 11, when I started volunteering my weekends and holidays at a horse trail riding company in Cairns. I got to spend my time looking after the horses and learning how to ride, and I gained a lot of large animal experience. Eighteen months later, I went from caring for horses to volunteering at Cairns Tropical Zoo, where I looked after a wide range of native and exotic animals.
After all this time spent volunteering, it was time to hit the books and study hard to get into University! After graduating with my Bachelor of Veterinary Science from James Cook University in Townsville, I couldn’t wait to move down the coast to start work in Mackay.
When I’m not at the clinic, you’ll often find me waiting in line for a coffee at a cafe, riding my motorbike up to Airlie beach for a weekend away, or at rugby training.
