I love the day-to-day operations at the clinic and enjoy the very dynamic lifestyle that our work gives me.
I was one of those kids that always wanted to be a vet. Nothing else… always a vet. I grew up on a very small property near Orange in New South Wales, with horses, cattle and a few dogs. After a year of working on cattle stations around Mt Isa I moved to Wagga Wagga where I went to university and completed my veterinary studies.
I had the good fortune to get a job at the same clinic as Tish after I finished Uni! My workload initially revolved around horses, but during my 18 months in Dubbo, this gradually evened out to a genuine mix between cats, dogs, horses and cattle.
Tish and I then took a working holiday to the UK and continued to focus on small animals. Working as locums allowed us to not only see many different places within England and Wales, it also gave us a wide range of experience in practice management and operations. While there, we were fortunate to travel to many parts of Europe, which made for a fantastic couple of years both personally and professionally.
In coming home to Australia, we faced a big decision in figuring out where to base ourselves. We wanted to take senior roles in a high-quality practice, where we could provide the highest level of service available to our patients and their owners. We were very fortunate that Stabler and Howlett offered us this, and we were extremely happy to have the opportunity to take on practice ownership. We’re lucky to be surrounded and supported by a great team of vets and nurses, which helps make our jobs so much more enjoyable.
I’m primarily interested in surgery and imaging, and I’m currently studying to gain the next level of certification in small animal surgery (these are known as memberships). I’ve already completed courses in small animal ultrasound, radiography, echocardiography and surgery, and I’m looking forward to continuing my surgical training.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, listening to music, and I pretty much love everything to do with sport. I’ve been known to watch anything from billiards and lawn bowls, right through to my favourites – cricket, rugby and tennis.
